DFE Race Motor is set to begin
well, the time has come. The will be a completely new setup and quite a bit more aggressive. The block is being built by Don Flores in Jacksonville. A few days ago, we had discussed running golden eagle sleeves but we got to talking about my old block and he didnt understand why i was wanting to run a new block when my old one would support everything i needed to do in NA form. So thats what we are doing. Everything is being scratched except for the block. Here is an idea of the run down:
Block (89.25 or 89.50mm bore depending on what he sees when he measures the bores): h23 crank (balanced, micropolished, mic'd for perfection) h22 BME custom Aluminum Rods (balanced) Custom DFE pistons by CP with cool hip race ring package -- I am looking for around 13.5 - 14:1 compression ACL bearings Internal oiling system reworked (crank, bearings, mains, girdle) ARP mains studs (line honed mains) Head: Skunk2 Pro3 cams Skunk2 Pro Valvetrain Golden Eagle Cam gears Transmission/driveline: MFactory 4.64 Final Drive MFactory LSD ESP Traction Bar Innovative Mounts Gator Axles Fuel: Injector Dynamics injectors Aeromotive FPR -6AN Aeroquip Fuel feed and return lines Q16 VP race fuel There are some things about the build that i will not be able to publish publicly per trade secrets of Don and I will not spill his beans. We are going to be doing the initial dyno testing and break in on his engine dyno and then i will bring the engine home ready to be put in the car. The engine is coming first and then the transmission stuff will be done after. I have approximately 6 months until next season starts so it will be up and running by then (no gremlins please!!!). All said and done, this motor should make around 300whp based on what the first setup did. Low 12's are the goal. In the mean time, other stuff to the car will be getting done to drop weight such as ABS removal, sound deadening removal, gutting unnecessary wiring, and full removal of all interior AC/Heat accessories. I would be taking the block and my cranks to him this weekend but its my birthday weekend so I'm definitely going to have some fun. The following weekend i will drop everything off to him so we can get started. he saved me over 1000 dollars since i dont have to sleeve so this will get done a good bit quicker than i originally intended. Stay tuned.

Yeah dude, you're making me look bad.
Decide on engine management or staying with ECTune? I'm excited about this build, and any speed secrets you learn will be a great tool for building engines for customers on down the line. Can't wait to see this car. |

yea i sold it not too long ago, along with the BOV. My engine was already built for NA and the amount of money (at the time) to add cams and valvetrain was much cheaper than building a turbo setup so i stuck to my roots. I'd never forgive myself for not building the head and seeing what it would do. So now i REALLY want to see what it will do and we are going to test it out.
basically, my goal with the prelude is to do what it can with this next motor with the car in "street" trim (meaning street legal chassis, non cut), then pull the motor and go H2b into a hatch (sorry, gonna have to in order to get where i want to get....no hard feelings ). Put an OEM low compression motor together with a bolt on turbo kit and put it in the lude to be a car i can drive on the streets when i dont want to drive the slow ass nissan lol.DD, street car, race car. But yea, that depends on a lot of factors that i cant even imagine yet so i dont want to get into fantasy dreams. ha. |

![]() I'm not even sure if he will tell me what he did (you better old man!!) in that regard. I do know that he runs his race motors a lot looser than I did. Basically what i gathered is that my main bearing clearances were in Honda Spec, but they were not suitable for what i was putting the engine through. Running tight clearances on a hot motor will heat the oil and reduce flow. My rod bearings spun which is fed from the crank which was too tight for my application. Makes perfect sense. I was once told something which explained what it took to really learn things from experience. "You can't be afraid to make a mistake." Well it helps that i work at a shop where i get free dyno time (off the clock) and a parking spot once brad's car is up and running. You also have to remember that my car is free advertising at the track so you hope it pays you back in the long run lol. Not only for me, but the people who helped along the way. |

Tell that old fogey to spill the beans. He'll need someone to carry on after he's done turning wrenches
![]() And man, too tight bearing clearances...who said that again? |

basically, the specs are for motors who are looking to last for 200000 miles. Since mine is strictly a race car then 30k miles will be one hell of a lifetime. |

ok the traction bar is finally going to be on its way to me. Karl couldn't find the front mount so he is refunding me 45 dollars and is going to send it my way. I dont really need the front mount anyway since i am going to be running the innovative mounts.
btw guys, if its found that my rods are still in good shape, is anyone interested in buying the rod and piston combo? I havent decided on a final price yet, but lets just say its about half as much (~$600) as a new set. |

I probably have a front mount that will work. Any little bit helps dude, the front mount will be way more solid than the mounts alone

well i can make one at the shop if i need to. Just dont want to. I think my laziness will change once i have the car at the shop and not the cramped garage.

Dude mounts are night and day, if I had an engine with stock mounts that'd probably be my first thing to do.
I'm thinking about putting them in the S, they're that worth it. |

Don told me last night that the turn around time for custom pistons is typically 2-3 weeks so the engine will be done and ready to kick some ass way before march. The transmission can wait until my funds are revived lol. |

ok everyone. i just got out of the hospital from dirt bike accident. had a compound break of both forearm bones. one of them broke the skin. i have a rod the length of my forearm in the one that broke the skin and a plate with 7 screws connecting the other bone together. this will set the build back a little until i figure out the payments of the medical bills. i'll be out of work for at least a month as well so yea.

A tad bit odd, but when I read that you were going to go dirt bike riding, thoughts of disaster crossed my mind. Glad that you are ok, could of been way worse.
